What kind of camera tripod do I need?
The Broadcast 15 weighs 14 pounds, the Broadcast 17 weighs 17 poounds and the DV-9 weighs 5 pounds. If the weight of the teleprompter and your camera exceed your tripod rating you will need to get a stronger tripod/head. In the real world you can get away with a little over the manufacturers rating. This is because the manufacturer rates the tripod/head for maximum amounts of panning and tilting. When teleprompting the camera remains relatively still putting less strain on the tripod/head combination. Aother option is to order the Universal 15/17 that comes with it's own stand. How is the monitor connected?
Our Broadcast 15/17 and Universal 15/17 use SVGA monitors. These monitors connect to your computer via the standard 15 pin VGA connector that is standard on all laptop and desktop computers. Our DV-11 and Convertible 9 teleprompters have VGA/composite monitors.
Our DV-9 takes a composite video input via an RCA plug. Most laptops made in the past 4 years have either a composite or svideo connector. If your computer has a svideo connector you will need a svideo to composite adapter (we have them available for $25). If your computer does not have either a composite video or svideo connector you will need to get a VGA scan converter (we offer these at $100).

Should I get a Universal or Broadcast model?
This decision depends on two things: whether the talent is stationary and if you have a tripod that can display the weight of the teleprompter and your camera. The Broadcast 15 weighs 14 pounds and the Broadcast 17 is 17 pounds. Add this weight to the weight of your camera and that is the load rating your tripod must support. It's generally ok to go over the limit a bit since teleprompter applications don't require fast camera movement. We offer a heavy duty tripod for just $399 that can support up to around 30 pounds. Click here for info on it TRIPOD LINK.
If your on-camera speakers are stationary whether sitting or standing the Universal style is a good choice. With this style of teleprompter you simply place your existing camera and tripod behind the Universal stand mount teleprompter and start shooting. Since the Universal teleprompter has it's own stand you don't need a heavy duty tripod. The Universal is also great for quick setups because you don't have to mount all the camera gear to the teleprompter mount.
